The National Center for Scientific Research, or CNRS, is a public organization under the responsibility of the French Ministry of Education and Research.
LIMSI (CNRS), a strongly multi-disciplinarity laboratory, hosts researchers from Engineering Sciences and Computer Science, but also from Life Sciences and Social Sciences. Its scientific field covers Natural Language Processing, Human-Machine Interaction, Augmented and Virtual Reality, Fluid Mechanics, and Energetics. We share a common long-term goal, which is to improve the well-being of man in their surrounding environment, both from a material and immaterial point of view.
Laurence Devillers is a full Professor of Computer Sciences and Artificial Intelligence at Sorbonne University/ CNRS (LIMSI lab., Orsay) on affective Robotics, Spoken dialog, Machine learning, and Ethics.
She is the author of more than 150 scientific publications (h-index: 35). In 2017, she wrote the book “Des Robots et des Hommes : mythes, fantasmes et réalité” (Plon, 2017) for explaining the urgence of building Social and Affective Robotic Systems with Ethics by design. The new AI and Robotics applications in domains such as healthcare or education must be introduced in ways that build trust and understanding, and respect human and civil rights. The issue of the Ethics of AI and robotics is an essential topic for Economy and for Society. Since 2014, she is member of the French Commission on the Ethics of Research in Digital Sciences and Technologies (CERNA) of Allistène and participated to several reports on Research Ethics on Robotics (2014) and Research Ethics on Machine learning. Since 2016, she is involved in “The IEEE Global Initiative for Ethical Considerations in the Design of Autonomous Systems” and head the 7008 working group on “Standard for Ethically Driven Nudging for Robotic, Intelligent and Autonomous Systems”. She is also involved in the DataIA institut (Orsay) and the French national TransAlgo platform (assessing the accountability and transparency of algorithmic systems). She participated to the AiForHumanity Forum at the "Collège de France" (https://www.aiforhumanity.fr) when the AI report of Cedric Villani “For a meaningful artificial intelligence : Towards a French and European strategy” was published and the French President Emmanuel Macron presented his vision and strategy for France and Europe in Artificial Intelligence.

Pitch of the conference
Smart-up is a think tank formed by Pierre Bonnet, co-founder of Orchestra Networks. Smart-up promotes best practices to use data, big data & AI in a good way, to support a reasonable and sustainable growth of the humanity. Here is a quote from our main essay on "Data & Humanity":
"Is humanity ready for an exponential growth of data? Once in the purview of computer experts, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) today affects our society with unprecedented growth of knowledge. We are surrounded by a vast amount of data that measures everything about our lives, this is Big Data. This data, driven by powerful computation, helps us make decisions, and even makes those decisions without us. Electronic assistants like Siri or Google Assistant are just the dawn of AI"
